The Pitt News wrote on Wednesday that Sushi Boat Asian Food on Oakland Ave. was cited by the Allegheny County Health Department on February 18 "for numerous critical violations of the county’s Food Safety Rules and Regulations."
The county’s Food Safety Assessment Reports cited Sushi Boat for critical violations of the code, including a lack of protection of foods from cross-contamination, poor personal hygiene, presence of rat droppings and dead rodents on the premises, improper storage of toxic items and cooked food being kept at unsafe temperatures.The full report is available online. Sushi Boat was named by the staff of The Pitt News as Best Sushi in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2011, but the restaurant didn't place in the sushi category the last two years.
Sushi Boat has been closed since the Health Department issued the report.
