North Korea Beyond Politics, March 8 at Pitt.



The University of Pittsburgh's Asian Studies Center will host its final panel session of this North Korean series on Friday, March 8.
Join us for the final part in our North Korea speaker series! In this panel, we will focus on aspects of North Korea rarely discussed in popular media--We are going beyond politics! Panelist BG Muhn and Immanuel Kim will share with us their expertise in North Korean society and culture.

Professor BG Muhn is a professor of painting in the Department of Art and Art History at Georgetown University. He is the author of "Pyongyang Art: Uncovering the Complex Layers of Chosonhwa" (2018) and has traveled to North Korea several times to visit museums and art collections.

Dr. Immanuel Kim is the Korea Foundation and Kim-Renaud Associate Professor of Korean Literature and Culture Studies at George Washington University. He specializes in North Korean literature and cinema and is the author of "Rewriting Revolution: Women, Sexuality, and Memory in North Korean Fiction" (2018). He is currently researching North Korean comedy films and filmic culture.

Professor Seung-Hwan Shin of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Pitt will be moderating the panel discussion.
