"Militarizing the Belt and Road: How China's Geoeconomics Impacts Regional Security Architecture in Asia and Beyond," January 31 at Pitt.

The University of Pittsburgh's Asian Studies Center will host Matthew Johnson and his talk "Militarizing the Belt and Road: How China's Geoeconomics Impacts Regional Security Architecture in Asia and Beyond" on January 31.

China's power in the Asia-Pacific is growing according to assessments of military strength. Dr. Johnson will discuss the consequences for other regions where Beijing's overseas ambitions come up against preexisting regional balance-of-power dynamics and security frameworks. His lecture examines how and why China's strategic vision has shifted westward, and how traditional security and risk management concerns are driving efforts to link continental states beyond the immediate periphery.
The talk begins at 3:00 pm in 4130 Posvar Hall (map) and is free and open to the public.
