Carnegie Mellon is enjoying its most productive fundraising years in its history, raising more than $950M over the last three years. University Advancement (UA) supports the entire CMU community in building relationships with key constituencies and securing the financial resources the university needs to continue its ascent. As the division grows, we are seeking an assistant director, International Development. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. Reporting to the associate director, International Development, you will be responsible for alumni and parent engagement and annual fund and leadership annual giving for the Greater China region. You will help to recruit and retain volunteers as well as guide them in all aspects of the CMU networks based in the region. Your responsibilities will include coordinating engagement events both in-person and virtual with alumni and parents in the region, planning comprehensive solicitations in collaboration with the Annual Giving team, donor and volunteer stewardship, and personal cultivation and solicitation of prospects. You will maintain a portfolio of 50-60 prospects and will be expected to travel internationally 4-5 times per year for 2-3 weeks at a time (once regular travel to China is possible). You will be an integral member of the International Development team working in close collaboration with the Alumni and Constituent Engagement team.Your core responsibilities will include:
- Setting annual goals for alumni and parent engagement, for annual giving from the Greater China region, and for annual leadership giving prospects who are assigned.
- Working in close collaboration with the Alumni & Constituent Engagement team to ensure that network plans are aligned with overall team goals.
- Ensuring an appropriate level of event activity in Greater China in coordination with network leaders, which may include a combination of in-person and virtual events.
- Overseeing and coordinating in collaboration with the Family Engagement team annual new family welcome events for Greater China.
- Soliciting multi-year leadership annual giving commitments. Manage a portfolio of 50-60 prospects who have a rated capacity of $10,000 or more.
- Personal outreach to alumni and parent volunteers and prospects to attain 150 or more visits annually either in-person or virtually.
- Appropriately stewarding donors and volunteers.
- Helping to identify potential volunteers willing to do peer solicitations or make matching or challenge gifts for annual giving appeals.
- Developing skills and participate in training.
- Keeping current on programs and faculty research and student initiatives at the university.
- Collaborating with faculty, deans and advancement colleagues when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.

You should be able to travel both domestically and internationally and be willing to work outside of normal business hours as needed.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is required
- One to three years of experience in an area such as fundraising, alumni relations, event management, sales, customer service or communications is preferable.
- Native level fluency in Mandarin Chinese required; knowledge of other Asian languages is a plus.
- Experience living or working in Greater China is preferred. Work experience in higher education is a plus

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and successfully complete a driver's license verification on an annual basis. Must complete the National Safety Council Defensive Driver Training once every three years
