Work is underway in the old Sumi's Cakery location on Love Hotpot & BBQ, located at 2119 Murray Ave. in Squirrel Hill (map). Sumi's closed for good in December 2024, after being temporarily closed for much of the last year. Various aspects of the project are in the review and approval phase, but Love Hotpot & BBQ plans to open a small dining area in what was the first Korean bakery in Pittsburgh when it opened in 2012.
The combined hotpot & BBQ concept was a popular theoretical trend in the Pittsburgh area in 2023 and 2024, but of the many places announced only Hong Hot Pot & BBQ has opened, on McKnight Rd. Places like Korean BBQ in Oakland, Shabu Shabu in the North Hills and Robinson, Top Pot Hotpot & Korean BBQ on the South Side, Kpot in Squirrel Hill are in various stages of (in)completion.
