Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し), Kiki's Delivery Service (魔女の宅急便) at Rangos Giant Cinema in February.




The Miyazaki films Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し) and Kiki's Delivery Service (魔女の宅急便) will play at the Rangos Giant Cinema at the Carnegie Science Center on February 1 and 2, respectively. Tickets for the 4:00 pm shows are now available online. The Carnegie Science Center is located at 1 Allegheny Ave. on the North Shore (map), accessible via the Allegheny T Station, in turn accessible by a number of city buses that run downtown.

New Chinese movie Only Cloud Knows (只有芸知道) continues in Pittsburgh through December 31.



The new Chinese movie Only Cloud Knows (只有芸知道), which opened in Pittsburgh on December 20, will continue through (at least) December 31.
Dongfeng (HUANG Xuan) is a middle-aged man living in New Zealand. He has been suffering from sorrow and loneliness ever since the death of his beloved wife, Yun (YANG Caiyu). Unable to overcome his grief, Dongfeng instead decides to retrace the journey he shared with Yun and fulfill a dream that she never had the chance to fulfill.
It will play at the AMC Loews Waterfront. Tickets are available online via Fandango or the theater website. The theater is located at 300 West Waterfront Dr. in the Waterfront shopping complex in Homestead (map), across the Monongahela River from Greenfield, Squirrel Hill, and the rest of Pittsburgh.

Pipa performer Yang Jin on WQED's Voice of the Arts.



On December 18, WQED FM's Voice of the Arts podcast spoke with Yang Jin, a Pittsburgh-based pipa soloist and educator.
Yang Jin is a pipa performer based here in Pittsburgh. She has performed with ensembles like the Silk Road Ensemble and Afro Yaqui, and she recently created her new initiative, Yang Jin and Friends. Reputed as the leading pipa soloist of her generation, Yang Jin tells us more about the instrument, her upcoming performances, and her recent collaborations -- and she even plays some music for us. Signage recently went up in Oakland for Wild Ninja Asian Grill. It will be located at 210 Oakland Ave. (map) in what was formerly Uncle Sam's Gourmet Subs, which closed in September 2018 after issues with the county health department.

Japan Association of Greater Pittsburgh's 2020年度新年会のご案内/ New Year Party 2020, January 19.

The Japan Association of Greater Pittsburgh (JAGP) will hold its annual 2020年度新年会のご案内/ New Year Party 2020 on January 19 at Happy Home Buffet in the North Hills (map). Yang Jin (杨瑾) & Friends concert at City of Asylum, February 5.



The City of Asylum will present a free concert with pipa player Yang Jin and other international musicians on February 5.
This program will feature extremely talented and passionate musicians from all over the world. Together they will explore the relationship between East and West through creativity and virtuosity. The program will feature songs spanning traditional music, world music, classical music & modern music combining Chinese, Middle Eastern, South American & other regional elements.
It will be held at Alphabet City on the North Side (map) and free tickets will be available online soon.

Anime Movie Marathon, January 29 at Pitt.



The Pitt Program Council will present three Ghibli movies as part of an Anime Movie Marathon on January 29, free to all University of Pittsburgh undergraduates with a valid student ID card.
Join the Pitt Program Council in Nordy's Place for a night of Studio Ghibli films! Spend the evening watching Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and My Neighbor Totoro with free food and drinks provided.

Howl's Moving Castle: 5:00 - 7:00 PM

Spirited Away: 7:10 - 9:15 PM

My Neighbor Totoro: 9:25 - 11:05 PM
