Signage up for Hong Kong Dim Sum in North Oakland.


Signage has gone up for Hong Kong Dim Sum at 4520 Centre Ave. in North Oakland. The dim sum restaurant (map), which would help fill one of the larger gaps in Pittsburgh's dining scene, was announced for the One on Centre appartment building back in September 2023. When it eventually opens, the new spot from the Mi Fan ownership team will occupy over 4200 square feet on the ground floor.

Sesame Inn North Hills location relocating to The Block Northway, eyes February opening.


Work is well underway on the Sesame Inn location in the North Hills, which is relocating to The Block Northway from its current spot on Browns Lane. The new location will occupy the storefront most recently occupied by Wahlburgers and is tentatively scheduled to open in February. Sesame Inn, which also has a location in Mt. Lebanon, has routinely been voted among the most popular Chinese restaurants in Pittsburgh in various readers' polls over the past few decades.

CMU 2025 Chinese New Year Celebration, January 31.


The Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics' Chinese Studies program at Carnegie Mellon University will host a Chinese New Year Celebration on January 31.
Come to celebrate Chinese New Years with the Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics! Free and open to the public, this event will feature many fun activities with rich Chinese cultural aspects including performances, snacks, games and raffles.

This celebration is co-hosted by LCAL's Chinese Studies program and CMU's Chinese Students Association.
It runs from 7:30 to 9:30 pm in the Rangos Ballroom on the second floor of the Cohon University Center (map).

The 2024 compilation film Attack on Titan: The Last Attack (劇場版「進撃の巨人」 ~THE LAST ATTACK~), consisting of the last two episodes of the anime series, will play in Pittsburgh on February 10.
Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK brings together the last two episodes of the highly acclaimed anime series in the franchise's first-ever theatrical experience delivering the epic finale in a colossal-sized omnibus film. Humanity lived quietly behind massive walls built to protect themselves from the threat of monstrous creatures called Titans. Their century of peace was shattered by an attack on their city that left a young child, Eren Yeager, motherless and vowing revenge on the titans. 2025 Pittsburgh Japanese Film Festival coming March 14 - 27.


The 2025 Pittsburgh Japanese Film Festival will run March 14 through 27 at the Row House Lawrenceville. This year's iteration of the annual festival will focus samurai films in its selections and programming.
The Pittsburgh Japanese Film Festival is one of the most prominent Asian film festivals in the Rust Belt — featuring new and classic films coming out of Japan’s innovative and prolific film industry.

Hosted each spring at Row House Cinema in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood, the festival features films from a wide variety of genres and popular events throughout its two-week run.
The 2025 festival will put a special focus on the Samurai genre through film selections and special events. Stay tuned for film selections and event announcements!
Superfan and Weekly ticket passes are now available for purchase, but individual tickets and the film and event lineups will be coming later. The single-screen theater is located at 4115 Butler St. (map).

Lunar New Year Celebration, February 1 at Cooper-Siegel Community Library in Fox Chapel.


The Cooper-Siegel Community Library will host a Lunar New Year Celebration on February 1.
Celebrate and learn about the Lunar New Year! This annual celebration organized by the Asian community of the Fox Chapel area features a wide variety of different festival activities. Final plans are still being made, but previous years have included: traditional Chinese music performed by Dorseyville Middle School students, taekwondo performed by the Young Brothers Taekwondo School students, a dragon parade, storytelling, crafts, as well as treats and gifts.

All ages are welcome.
The event runs from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Registration is required and can be completed online. The Cooper-Siegel Community Library is located at 403 Fox Chapel Rd. (map).

Pittsburgh Opera and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh are partnering on a panel discussion about women’s roles in tech, video games, manga, anime, and comic books as Pittsburgh Opera prepares for its mainstage production of Madama Butterfly.
